Today was SUPER cool. We were able to get a model in to pose for us while we worked on developing our memory drawings. Heather gave some good guidance from Perry Stewart's Advanced Figure Drawing class. Some specific tips were to pay close attention to the negative and possitive shapes as well as taking a mental picture of the enveloping shape around the figure. We did 3 five minute poses and then gave the model a break while we redrew the 3 poses from memory. It was a great exercise. Perry said in his class that the great illustrators of "the golden age of illustration" (Maxfield Parrish, J.C. Leyendecker, to name a couple) were exceptional at drawing the human figure because they did exercises like this where they trained themselves to remember the shapes that the human figure makes. Thanks to everyone who showed up to Club this week!
